This is an Oral Presentation. No written materials need to be handed in.
There is a maximum time limit of 5 minutes. Please practice and ensure you fall within this limit.
In the past many students have found it helpful to use cue cards to ensure that no information if forgotten.
The reading of the book and required work is to be completed at home. Assistance from parents is encouraged.
All students should be prepared to present on February 5th. It is possible that due to time constraints some students may present the following day. Names for presenting will be pulled at random.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or if you are unsure of the difficulty of the book your child has selected.

Book Talk
Students should select a book of their choice. It can be either fiction or non-fiction. I encourage students to read novels or short chapter books, but each student reads at a different level so in some instances a picture book is acceptable if it is at your child's reading level. There is NO written component, book talks are evaluated as an oral presentation. Some students may choose to use cue cards as reminders, but they are strongly discouraged from reading directly from their notes the entire time. If your child has lost the rubric for his/her book talk, you can download a copy of it on my website below.
Book Talks are a great way for students to share their thoughts and feelings about a text. They provide students with opportunities to learn about a new author or text form, share critical insights about a text, read and discuss a particularly interesting passage, or introduce their peers to one of their own favourite texts. They also provide an independent moment for the teacher to observe the students performing an oral presentation in front of the class. While one student is presenting their BOOK TALK, the rest of the class will use their best listening skills. Using ”Cue Cards” during your 3 - 5 minute oral book talk might be a good strategy to help you remain focused. However, you need to memorize or have a good idea of what you’re going to say and you can not read directly from your “Cue Cards”.
