Easier comprehension questions
- Summarize what happened in this chapter. ie In this chapter,…
- Would you want the character to be your friend? Why or why not?
- What was the problem in the story? How was it solved?
- What was your favourite part of the story and why?
- Describe the setting for the story (when, where). What are some of the wo rds used to describe the setting? (ie a grey, gloomy overcast day)
- What does this word meant? (Be a Word Wizard and find new vocabulary words in the story)
More difficult comprehension questions
- Why do you think the character acted the way they did in that situation?
- Have you ever been in this situation before? Explain with real examples.
- Would you want this character to be your friend? Why?
- Does this story remind you of another story? Explain how they were similar by giving examples.
- What kind of person do you think the character is? Do you think they would have a lot of friends? Why?
- Predict what you think will happen in the next story. (Imagine a sequel)
Non-Fiction Reading Questions
- After reading, what did you feel about the topic? How did it interest you?
- What are some of the new vocabulary that you have learned?
- Use a few of the new vocabulary in your own sentences.
- What new facts did you learn from the reading? Give examples.
- What was the most interesting fact that you learned?
- Did the pictures help you understand what you read? Why or why not?
- What are the subtitles?
- Why are some words in bold or in italics?
